Community Funding

Lanark County to rehabilitate Pakenham Bridge with up to $75,000 in Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program Funding

Lanark County is receiving a contribution of up to $75,000 through the Federal Economic Development Agency for South Ontario’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) to rehabilitate the Pakenham Bridge, which is located on the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail (OVRT).

The OVRT was previously owned by CP Rail. In 2016, Lanark County, Renfrew County and the Township of Papineau Cameron purchased the 296 kilometer rail line with the intention of converting it into a recreation trail. Lanark County’s portion of the trail encompasses 61 kilometers and includes 9 bridges.

The planned rehabilitation of the Pakenham Bridge includes the installation of new steel cross beams perpendicular to the existing steel girders, a new wooden deck and pressure treated wooden rails anchored to steel posts. Estimated project cost is $355,000 (before HST). Rehabilitation is planned to commence October 2, 2017 with an estimated completion date of December 22, 2017.

Projects funded through CIP150 allow Canadians to enjoy upgraded community facilities such as park, trails, cultural and community centres, while celebrating the places across this great country that unite and connect us.
